About Lhasa and Places to Visit
Mercury Jets provides private jet charter flights to and from Lhasa.
The historic capital of Tibet is the small, picturesque town of Lhasa. It is located in the Chengguan district and is part of the Tibetan autonomous region. The climate in the area is mountainous with significant differences in temperature during the day, and today about 900 thousand people live here. Lhasa is relatively new to foreign tourists, but it is an important religious site for many centuries; walking around the city can often be seen traditionally dressed monks with prayer wheels.
Drak Yerpa Monastery is considered one of the main holy sites in Lhasa, the local caves were created back in pre-Buddhist times, and it has long been the pilgrim center of the country. Most of the city’s tourist attractions are gathered precisely in the center, and it is easy to get around on foot. It was a lively district with narrow streets and plenty of stalls offering Tibetan clothing and jewelry many centuries ago. Another gem of Lhasa, Norbulinka, or Treasure Park, is on the UNESCO World Heritage List as the summer residence of the Dalai Lama. It is surrounded by an abundance of flowers and trees on the shores of the lake. The largest nunnery, Ani Tsamkhong Nunnery, is also close to the center and home to over 100 nuns who perform traditional Tibetan rituals.
The public Lhasa Gonggar Airport (LXA, ZULS) is excellent for private charters to and from Lhasa. It is conveniently located about forty miles from the center and receives nearly four million passengers a year.
